Project List

My hobbies have grown so my project list needs categories now, here’s what I’ve got in the works, who knows what I will get to, I should have some free time in a few weeks.

Cold Process Soap Making

Idea: I made a lot of soap last year, I have  isolated my favorites and will be recreating some variation of them. All of my soap sold or was given away last year so I only have the newer two that I made in November that were curing at the time I ran out.

  1. Charcoal soap split (Lavender/Rosemary Soap, Cedar/Bergamot)
  2. Breton Sea Salt Bar
  3. Coconut Milk split scent ( hawaiian jasmine, sandalwood)
  4. Beer Soap (new soap type)

Other Soap

  1. Shaving Cream (will run out soon)
  2. Laundry and Dish Soap ( will run out soon)

Lip Balm

This is meant to be as a set for holiday presents but it didn’t happen. I will be infusing the black tea into the oils.

  1. Black Tea & Lavender
  2. Black Tea & Peppermint
  3. Black Tea & Bergamot

Lotion/Conditioner

I might make these with Black Tea Infused Oil as well.

  1. Apple/Sage Conditioner
  2. Apple/Sage Lotion

Sewing

I’m an extreme beginner, I still cant sew a straight line or understand some terms and instructions. The seam ripper is my best friend and I keep stabbing myself with pins and burning myself on the iron… but I have determination.

  1. Skirt
  2. Purse
  3. Backpack
  4. Jean Quilt
  5. Tri-Fold Wallet

Paper Projects

  1. Handmade Paper with Botanical Imbeds
  2. Hardcover hand made blank journal

Cooking

  1. El Pollo Loco Chicken ( pineapple and lime glaze)
  2. Teriyaki Tofu ( I can’t get it right!! Eventually…)
  3. Corn Tortillas

Fall Crafting Begins

I have a few friends who really like Black Phoenix Alchemy Labs scents so I ordered some small samplers to experiment with. I’ve also got a sampler of Silk Amino Acids so I will be trying out some new lotions. I decided on the following combinations.

Test #1

Base lotion: Distilled Water, Sweet Almond Oil, Emusifying Wax, Argan Oil, Cocoa Butter, Vegetable Glycerin, Stearic Acid, Coconut Oil, Vitamin E and Oat Extract, Preservative

Scents: Antikythera Mechanism & Belladonna

Test #2

Base Lotion: Distilled Water, Emulsifying wax, Jojoba Oil, Sweet Almond Oil, Cocoa Butter, Coconut Oil, Vegetable Glycerin, Stearic Acid, Silk Amino Acids, Preservative

Scents & Extracts:

Jack fragrance with Oat Extract

Twilight fragrance with Evening Primrose Extract

Miskatonic University with Sea Buckthorn Extract

Balms & Cooking

I gave flavored Lip Balm a go, let the reviews help me decide and I ended up with Passionfruit Rose. I am always too timid to add colorant to lip balm, I should have made it a more bold pink. These are for my holiday giveaways.

Next up on my list was a repeat of my lavender balm.

I also made a big pot of Carrot Ginger Soup to bring to work and share with my coworkers… but then I ate it all… oops. Must plan to make double next time?

Valencia Orange Lotion Recipe

This recipe makes 8.8 oz recipe by weight and I filled two 4 oz containers by volume and had a couple of teaspoons left over.

In a double boiler melt:

.15 oz Mango Butter

.15 oz Shea Butter

.4 oz Emulsifying Wax

.15 oz Stearic Acid

.4 oz Sunflower Oil

.15 oz Coconut Oil

When melted remove from heat pour into a mixing bowl and stir before adding:

6.25 oz hot Distilled Water (If you use cold water expecially without mixing first you will have the oils try to resolidify, particularly the stearic acid)

Stir gently for a moment or two until it has cooled a few degrees then add:

1.5 oz Aloe Vera Juice

.2 oz Meadowfoam Oil

.1 oz Vitamin E Oil

.1 oz Tamanu Oil

1-2 ml Valencia Orange Essential Oil

(add preservative of your choice according to it’s instructions, if it helps 1% of 8.8 oz is 2.6 ml)

Continue to let the mixture cool for a few minutes then test the lotion in liquid form on your arm to ensure you got the scent you wanted, adjust if needed. Pour lotion while still warm liquid into your chosen container, as it cools it thickens, leave the lid off for about 8-10 hours to let moisture escape while cooling, otherwise you may see condensation gathering and pooling on top of your lotion or your lotion will be too liquidy. After the cooling/resting phase place lid on container(s) and label.

I’m sorry I did not take pictures when I made this recipe.

I only had enough infused oil for one batch, which fit into three containers perfectly with none extra for me, boo.

Some of the others I have available.

I placed an order for supplies to experiment with scrubs, walnut shell in particular.

I need to make some more soap soon and I sold through my Peppermint Cocoa Butter lip balms so I guess I’ll be making more lip balm soon… too bad I am out of vanilla oil… I never got to Vanilla Cocoa Butter or Vanilla Rum scents.

Also I need to strain my Lavender infused oil and start it into another lavender infusion to make it stronger. And my Dill is done drying, I need to process and put it in a jar. In my herb garden my Cilantro is blooming, I was hoping for the Lavender or the Chamomile to bloom but Cilantro is better than nothing I guess.

Pear Lotion and Soap

I got an Anjou Pear sampler with my order I have also had a request for pear scented lotion so it worked out, I made a batch of lotion and a soap earlier and most of the sample is gone. I made a bit of the lotion as spiced pear by adding a few drops of bay rum. Tomorrow I will experiment with Pumpkin spice and Peppermint.

Coffee Lotion Recipe

I’ve had my coffee butter infusing for some time now and it smells delicious. I’ll have to start a new infusion soon but this one got a full 6 months of cold infusion with Starbucks Pike Place Espresso. The infused coffee really brings out a strong coffee scent while the Cocoa butter I used is unrefined and brings a chocolate scent to the coffee, the vanilla is very mild and sort of sweetens the coffee/chocolate.

The Recipe I used was..

1/8 cup Coconut Oil infused with fresh espresso grounds

1/8 cup Sunflower Oil infused with Vanilla Beans

1/8 cup  Cocoa Butter

1/8 cup Mango Butter

1/4 cup Emulsifying Wax

2/3 – 1 1/2 cups Strong Coffee (depending on how thick or thin you want the lotion to be)

1 tbs jojoba oil

10 drops Vitamin E

1% Optiphen

In a double boiler melt Coconut Oil, Sunflower oil, Cocoa Butter, Mango Butter, Emulsifying Wax until solids are dissolved.

Meanwhile, make 1 cup of strong coffee.

Remove oils from double boiler and pour into bowl. Measure 1/2 cup coffee and add to oils while stirring.

(Enjoy the rest of the coffee you brewed while completing the final steps)

Mix well until liquid is smooth, place bowl in Fridge for a few moments until a thicker skin forms on top and around the sides of the bowl.

Remove from fridge and mix well, repeat process until lotion has thickened and cooled. Just as it cools and starts to become a solid add Jojoba, Vitamin E and Preservative. Mix well and then for several minutes more for good measure.
