Shampoo Bars

I made Shampoo Bars with Coconut Milk, Coconut Oil, Hemp Seed Oil, Olive Oil, Castor Oil, Palm Oil, Jojoba Oil and Sweet Almond Oil. I added Henna Powder, Citric Acid and Panthenol, Rosemary EO, Tea Tree EO and Peppermint EO.

I made the mistake of trying to cut them way, way to early so they are going to rest for a few days. I consistently make harder soaps that can be cut the next morning so I wasn’t even thinking about how soft this was going to be until the knife was already in the soap. The rest got almost a week of sitting before I cut them. I used a brand new mold with better insulation and got a bit of overheating in some of these bars, luckily these are just for family.

For shampoo bars most people forgo the use of fragrance oils and colorants. I decided to do the same. The addition of Rosemary, Tea Tree and Peppermint essential oils are more beneficial to hair than a fragrance oil could ever be.

Beard Oil and Coffee Scrub Recipes

Got a few requests this week, here’s what I am up to this evening.

Beard Oil

1 oz Jojoba Oil

1 oz Sweet Almond Oil

2 tablespoons Argan Oil

3-5 drops Cedarwood Essential Oil

3-5 Sandalwood Essential Oil

Mix all ingredients together and then pour onto dropper bottles.

Coffee Scrub with Coconut Oil

1/2 cup fine ground coffee

1/2 cup sugar

1/2 cup coconut oil

1 teaspoon pumpkin pie spice

Mix well, (don’t forget to add the preservative of your choice) place in wide rimmed container or 4 oz canning jars. The coffee and pumpkin pie spices takes a few days to defuse into the coconut oil. When that happens a wonderful scent develops.

A problem I have with coffee scrub is it looks like the yummiest cake batter you have ever seen when you mix it.

Lavender Tea Tree Facial Soap Recipe

I don’t have 1 oz soap molds so I make a 4 oz square bar and then cut it into 1 oz slices.

Lavender Tea Tree Facial Soap

4 oz Shea Melt and Pour Soap Base (divided into 2 parts)

1/8 tsp Kaolin Clay and/or Rose Clay

1/8 tsp Activated Charcoal

8 drops Evening Primrose Extract

6 drops Lavender Essential Oil

4 drops Tea Tree Essential Oil

10 drops Jojoba Oil

Layer 1

In a measuring cup place 2 oz of the Shea Melt & Pour soap base and then add Kaolin Clay or Rose Clays.

Melt in microwave in 10 second bursts and mix well for a minute. Add Lavender Essential Oil, Evening Primrose Extract and Jojoba Oil. Pour into mold and spritz with isopropyl alcohol to remove any bubbles.

If you want your layers of soap to remain completely separate place the mold with Layer 1 in the freezer while you prepare Layer 2.

Layer 2

In the same measuring cup place 2 oz of the Shea Melt & Pour soap base chopped into pieces and Activated Charcoal.

Melt in microwave in 10 second bursts and mix well for a minute. Add Jojoba Oil and Tea Tree Essential Oil and mix well.

Spritz the clay soap with isopropyl alcohol again before pouring the charcoal layer on top. The alcohol is essential to ensuring the layers of soap stick together. Depending on how long Layer 1 cooled when you pour Layer 2 it may sit on top as a separate layer or immediately mix in.

Let your mold cool for an hour or more before removing, if you are impatient you can put it in the freezer but take it out after about 10 minutes or it might sweat glycerin when it comes out of the mold.

Green Tea Anti-Aging Face Cream

Here is my idea for an anti-aging face cream. I kinda winged it based on a sensitive skin recipe I made for some one. I also whipped this one for a while so it is light and fluffy.

IMG_4453

Green Tea Anti-Aging Face Cream

.5 oz Shea Butter

.2 oz Chamomile Infused Sunflower Oil

.4 oz Emulsifying Wax

.15 Stearic Acid

.2 Jojoba Oil

6 oz Distilled Water

1.5 oz Glycerin

.2 oz Sea Buckthorn Extract

.3 oz Green Tea Extract

.1 oz Ginkgo Extract

.2 oz Oat Extract

Preservative

In A double boiler melt Emulsifying Wax, Stearic Acid, Chamomile infused Sunflower Oil, and Shea Butter.

Heat Distilled Water for 1 minute in the microwave and pour into your mixing bowl, with a whisk slowly add the melted oil until it is entirely encoporated. Set aside and wait several minutes until it has cooled below 100 degrees.

While mixing add Jojoba Oil, Glycerin. When incorporated add Sea Buckthorn, Green Tea, Oat and Ginkgo Extracts.

Calculate your recipe total weight and add preservative according to it’s guidelines. Mix for several minutes until face cream is light and fluffy.

Transfer to it’s final jar or container to set, leave it with lid off for several hours before sealing.

Grapefruit & Lavender Lip Balm restocked

IMG_3385

My supplies arrived so I made another batch of Grapefruit & Lavender Lip Balm. I was out for a couple of days and I had people waiting while I waited on USPS. I was so excited to make stuff I forgot how many tubes and pots I have, I over calculated and made a little more than I expected so I will have to make a smaller batch of the Earl Grey Lip Balm tomorrow.

Lavender Grapefruit Body Butter

This is the smoothest, softest and most wonderful feeling body butter I have ever used. My skin absolutely loves mango butter. I have a few available on my etsy page if you are lacking ingredients and time.

1.5 oz shea butter

1 oz mango butter

1 oz coconut oil

.5 oz – .8 oz  jojoba oil (I eyeballed this one)

15 drops pink grapefruit essential oil

15-18 drops lavender essential oil

3 drops vitamin E

Combine first 4 ingredients in a double boiler and heat until melted, remove and cool in fridgerator for 30 minutes.
Remove from fridge, the mixture should still be liquid, add essential oils and vitamin E and return to fridge for another 20-40 minutes checking and stiring occasionally, as the mixture begins to become cloudy and solidify around the edges, remove from fridgerator and whip for 10 minutes until light and fluffy.
Place in storage container and chill for another 20-30 minutes. Remove from fridge, let it return to room temperature and enjoy.IMG_3232
