Spring Hair Conditioner Recipe

I ran out of hair conditioner while moving so I made this up quick.

I went heavy on the extracts and there is almost no oil in it because I co-wash. If you use this small amount of oil, melting the BTMS-50 in a double boiler can be a bit of a struggle, make sure the Distilled Water is also hot and whisk as you mix them, I recommend checking the instructions and temperature listings on the ingredient packages so you know when to add your extracts. I scented it with Pikake flower and tart apple as my last ingredients along with the preservative.

I have a few friends who really like Black Phoenix Alchemy Labs scents so I ordered some small samplers to experiment with. I’ve also got a sampler of Silk Amino Acids so I will be trying out some new lotions. I decided on the following combinations.

Test #1

Base lotion: Distilled Water, Sweet Almond Oil, Emusifying Wax, Argan Oil, Cocoa Butter, Vegetable Glycerin, Stearic Acid, Coconut Oil, Vitamin E and Oat Extract, Preservative

Scents: Antikythera Mechanism & Belladonna

Test #2

Base Lotion: Distilled Water, Emulsifying wax, Jojoba Oil, Sweet Almond Oil, Cocoa Butter, Coconut Oil, Vegetable Glycerin, Stearic Acid, Silk Amino Acids, Preservative

Scents & Extracts:

Jack fragrance with Oat Extract

Twilight fragrance with Evening Primrose Extract

Miskatonic University with Sea Buckthorn Extract

BalmsĀ & Cooking

I gave flavored Lip Balm a go, let the reviews help me decide and I ended up with Passionfruit Rose. I am always too timid to add colorant to lip balm, I should have made it a more bold pink. These are for my holiday giveaways.

Next up on my list was a repeat of my lavender balm.

I also made a big pot of Carrot Ginger Soup to bring to work and share with my coworkers… but then I ate it all… oops. Must plan to make double next time?

Hair Conditioner Recipe

Here we go, I’ve been reading up on this for a while a few things to get familiar with before you start should beĀ cationic quaternary compound’s and PH.

I feel like I am ready to try making a batch of hair conditioner. I researched ingredients for a while then built some basic recipes around what I have on hand. Sketched out several recipes for General Use(Argan & Nettle), Moisturizing (Coconut & Avocado) , Dandruff(Tea Tree, Avocado & Nettle), Winter Hair (Carrot & Oat), Invigorating(Jojoba, Rosemary & Peppermint).

My first attempt is as follows, this was my ‘general use’ idea.

90.5% Distilled Water

3% BTMS-50

1% Panthenol

3% Nettle Extract

1% Argan Oil

1% Fragrance (I used green apple)

1% Optiphen

It was a little on the thin side, and very appley! If I were remaking this recipe right now I would make the following adjustments 0.5% fragrance and 4% BTMS-50.
